Classify the well drilling work

Follow the Arizona licensing path in order

The company first needs the ROC classification that matches the drilling contract, with its entity, qualifying party, experience, examination, and bond records. The individual or business performing well drilling also follows the ADWR well-driller licensing system. These are separate state authorities and both must be checked.

Before drilling, deepening, modifying, replacing, or abandoning a covered well, file the current Notice of Intent. The driller may not begin until physically holding the Drill Card and approved application showing the named driller, license number, construction design, and location. ADWR says the card may not be used by another driller and subcontracting under another driller's number is prohibited.

Create the entity and align every record

Choose the legal owner before filing the license. Form an LLC or corporation through the Arizona Corporation Commission when that entity will sign contracts. Document any trade name. Use the same legal name, entity type, owners, addresses, and qualifying person on the license application, bond, insurance, tax accounts, bank account, contracts, vehicles, advertising, and permit accounts.

Create one applicant file with the accepted entity record, ownership disclosures, qualifying-party or controlling-person record, experience evidence, examination results, background documents, bond, workers compensation evidence when employees are used, fees, tax accounts, local registrations, and renewal calendar. Price the bond, insurance, and worker structure correctly

Arizona ROC bond amounts are not one universal figure. The amount changes with residential, commercial, specialty, general, or dual authority and the contemplated Arizona gross volume for the license. Residential contractors also address the Recovery Fund assessment or the permitted alternative. Use the current ROC table and exact license class when asking a surety for a quote.

The ROC says that, apart from workers compensation, it does not require general liability insurance merely to issue the ordinary contractor license. That is not a recommendation to operate uninsured. Disclose the full scope, employees, subcontractors, vehicles, tools, heights, excavation, water, fire, pollution, professional, and completed-operations exposure to a qualified broker. Verify the address-level permit and inspection path

Before the first quote, identify the city, town, county, tribal, state, or other authority with jurisdiction. Describe the complete scope and ask which contractor classification may apply for permit issuance, who may apply, what plans and product approvals are required, when work may be concealed, and which inspections or tests close the permit. Save the official response with the estimate.

A local permit requirement also matters to the minor-work exemption because work requiring a local building permit does not qualify for that exemption. Do not rely on a customer statement that no permit is needed. Confirm it directly, put permit responsibility and fees in the written contract, and keep inspection approvals in the job file.
